Beck Lund Socia is one of the most promising young glass artists in Småland, a region that has long been synonymous with Sweden’s golden heritage of glassmaking. He has quickly risen from the hot furnaces of the glassworks to big exhibitions. At just 24 years of age, Socia has already established himself as a master at Orranäs Glasbruk in Orrefors, where he combines traditional craftsmanship with innovative design and a playful spirit of experimentation.
His training at the Riksglasskolan in Nybro laid the foundation for his skill in glassblowing. There he learned to tame the molten glass – a material that requires precision, rhythm and intuition. Socia previously worked for Orrefors Kosta Boda, but it is at Orranäs that he has truly flourished. As a glassblowing master, he leads demonstrations that celebrate the magic of glass art.
Socia is married to glass artist Amanda Lund Socia, and together they form a creative power couple. Their collaborations shine brightly: in 2025, they created the exhibition Awakening in the English Park at Solliden Palace on Öland, inaugurated by the king himself. The works, inspired by the awakening forces of nature, mix sculptural forms with subtle colors and reflective surfaces. Their new vase Torus perfectly exemplifies their philosophy: a sculptural meeting between form and balance, where the glass floats in harmonious tension.
Beck Lund Socia is praised not only for his technique but also for his ability to inject personality into his craft. In April 2025, he gave a live demonstration at Glaskonsthelgen (Glass Art Weekend), and in October he was awarded the Småland Academy’s culture prize of SEK 75,000 – recognition of his contribution to the region’s cultural heritage. Earlier that year, he received a scholarship from the Swedish Art and Utility Glass Association, a “gamble” that became a milestone. Socia sees glass as a living storyteller: “It is magic shaped by fire and breath,” he has said.
With roots in the Kingdom of Crystal and his eyes on the world, Beck Lund Socia represents a new generation that keeps tradition alive while challenging boundaries. His works, from intimate vases to monumental installations, invite reflection on the fleeting and the eternal. In an age of mass production, he reminds us of the soul of craftsmanship—warm, malleable, and irresistibly appealing.
