With bold colors and playful figures, Carlos R. Pebaqué creates unique art glass that evokes both joy and curiosity. His design language is characterized by energy, humor, and a distinct personal expression, with each piece telling its own story.
Carlos was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1950 and began his career in glass at a young age. After studying at the art school in Montevideo, he founded his first glass company, Tallado en Cristal. In the early 1980s, he came to Småland, where he trained at the Orrefors Glass School and quickly became part of the creative environment of the Kingdom of Glass.
Since then, Pebaqué has established himself as one of the region’s most distinctive glass artists. His work is particularly notable for his proprietary CARA technique, in which the glass is painted during the blowing process itself. The color then becomes an integral part of the glass mass—not something added afterwards—giving each object a unique depth and life.
Pebaqué’s art expresses a strong belief in the power of joy and the endless possibilities of glass. Through his imaginative figures and vibrant colors, he wants to create art that touches, inspires, and makes the viewer smile—at life, at colors, and at the magic of glass.
