Niels Ole Frandsen

Niels is a trained designer from the Danish Design School and Aalto University. Niels’ design language is simple and playful, and his objects often relate to the local community and specific stories.

His graduation project is a bottle with a treasure map, inviting the user to participate in the process of flavouring their schnapps. The project ties in with Niels’ childhood country, at the outer edge of the sand dunes filled with biodiversity, and the process of making schnapps. He collaborates with local enthusiasts, who give him recipes and locations where herbs can be found. The treasure map is found in a mouth-blown bottle with the bottom blown against a sandy surface, creating a small landscape.

At Orranäs Glassworks, inspiration is often found in nature. Niels’ ducks are an example of this. Using different colors, he imitates the ducks in the pond. Sometimes the birds are given a little more color and become a little more imaginative than in reality.
In addition to his role as a designer for Orranäs, Niels also works physically with glass, as he is an assistant in the glassworks.

A major addition to Orranäs’ products is “Fröet” (The Seed), a vase inspired by sunflower seeds, designed by Niels-Ole Frandsen and glassworks master Amy Krüger.
