Rasmus Blume works at the intersection of tradition and innovation. Here at Orranäs Glassworks, he has made the fusing technique his primary means of expression, where pieces of glass are melted together to create new shapes, color shifts, and patterns. Much of the material comes from the glassworks’ own work; small fragments and scraps that would otherwise be thrown away are given new life in his hands. In this way, each piece becomes a beautiful example of reuse, where the history of previous works melts together into something completely new.
Rasmus sees fusing as a way of letting the glass speak its own language. By experimenting with transparency, structure, and chance in the melting process, he creates works that feel both alive and well thought out.
He often collaborates with other artists and glassblowers, sometimes combining fusing with hand-blown details—a union between the flat and the sculptural.
His works have been exhibited in both Stockholm and Öland, but it is in his studio in Orranäs that he continues to explore the possibilities of the material, guided by curiosity and joy.
