In the heart of Orrefors, where the history of glassmaking meets the tranquility of nature, lies our park – a green oasis with roots in the past.
Once upon a time, this was the apple orchard of the landlord's villa. Back then, the place was filled with the scent of blossoming fruit trees and the sound of work from the glassworks next door. Today, the garden has been given new life as a park – a place where history, nature and the future intertwine.
The large lawns invite you to play, relax and picnic under the summer sky. Flowers, trees and shrubs create spaces for tranquillity, movement and colourful splendour. In the fall, the apple trees are laden with fruit – and everyone is welcome to pick them. Sharing the harvest has become part of the park's soul, a living reminder of the garden's origins.
But our park is also something more. The plants are examples of useful plants that purify the soil and could be used in a real phytopark – a place where plants are not just beautiful. Some plants have a special ability to absorb and convert environmentally hazardous substances from the soil. Sunflowers thrive in soil containing cadmium, willow purifies lead, and lupins help absorb arsenic – three substances that were once used in glass production and can sometimes still be found hidden in old industrial land.
Today, glassworks use completely different materials and have a deeper understanding of the environment. The park thus becomes a symbol of change and recovery—a place where nature itself contributes to the whole story.
Perhaps you will stroll through the park with a coffee from the café, or sit in the shade of an apple tree and let your thoughts wander. Here, the history of glass, the future of craftsmanship, and nature's own ability to heal come together – in the heart of Orrefors.
